Advertisement for a Postdoctoral Scientist

The Consumer Sciences Subject Group of the North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, South Africa is welcoming pplications for the abovementioned position. The research team consists of ten consumer scientists focusing their research on aspects of improving the wellbeing of the South African consumer through consumer behaviour research. Your role would be:

  • Assisting in all aspects of research project on improving consumer wellbeing from organization and planning of data collection to data analysis, manuscript preparation and publication;
  • Writing funding applications;
  • Student supervision;
  • Field work (interviews, focus groups, questionnaires)

Your background:

  • Recently qualified PhD in Consumer Sciences or related areas;
  • Experience in consumer research and applied research methodology;
  • Some experience in field work;
  • Team player, highly motivated, enthusiastic personality.


This position is immediately available (or at the applicant’s earliest convenience) and is for an initial period of 1 year, but can be extended up to three years. Salary is based on the current postdoctoral bursary scales at the North-West University and amounts to R150 000 (approximately: Euro 13 000).
