Job Outline:
The Division of Food Sciences is looking for an enthusiastic academic to develop research and teaching in aspects of food chemistry. The successful candidate will be part of an established multidisciplinary team with an international reputation for fundamental sciences applied in the food and related industries. Current research themes in Food Sciences include food structure, bioprocessing, multisensory perception and natural oils supported by very well equipped laboratories offering a unique range of chemical and physical based analytical methods in addition to a Sensory Science Centre to provide a human interface for research and development of food and beverage products. The Division has complementary research capabilities in food safety and fermentation technologies. Collaborative research projects extend within and beyond the University with funding attracted from UK research councils, the EU and industry. This favourable environment provides an excellent platform to develop new research interests at Nottingham with the support of the established team. There will be the immediate opportunity to join existing research programmes and supervise research students.
The position will also include continued development and delivery of the Division’s successful taught undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Research
- To extend the portfolio of research of the Division and School and obtain external funding for research from public and industrial sources.
- As appropriate, to collaborate with other staff within the University in research funding submissions and successful delivery of high quality research.
- To contribute to the publication record of the School.
- To supervise Postgraduate research programmes.
Teaching
- To teach and examine students, particularly those reading for undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in Food Sciences and related disciplines. To act as Module Convenor to develop and maintain the quality and relevance of the course curricula and materials.
- Supervise undergraduate and post-graduate students undertaking Research Projects within the Division.
- To liaise with the Food industry in the placement of students and to assess industry training needs
Administration
- The successful candidate will be expected to actively contribute to the administrative duties in the Division and the University.
